The L 150 Jaw Coupling (often denoted as L150) is a high-capacity, flexible shaft coupling designed for heavy-duty industrial power transmission. It is the largest model in the standard L-series that typically uses Sintered Iron hubs, though it is also frequently available in Cast Iron or Aluminum for specialized weight or corrosion requirements. Like its smaller counterparts, it features a fail-safe design that ensures continuous (though noisy) power transmission even if the elastomeric spider fails.
The L 150 provides a substantial increase in torque capacity, making it suitable for high-torque motors. Its performance is dependent on the spider material:
| Specification | Synthetic Rubber (NBR) | Polyurethane (PU) | H-Trans / Hytrel |

Outside Diameter (ØA): 95.25 mm (approx. 3.75")
Max Bore (D): 48 mm (approx. 1.875")
Overall Length (TL1): 114.3 mm (approx. 4.50")
Length thru' Bore (L1): 44.45 mm
Hub Diameter (ØB): 95.25 mm
Gap (G): 25.4 mm (between hub faces)
The Setup: Two hubs are secured to the driving and driven shafts using keyways and set screws.
Compression Drive: Power is transmitted through the "legs" of the spider insert. As the drive hub turns, its jaws squeeze the spider against the jaws of the driven hub.
Misalignment Handling: The spider acts as a flexible joint, allowing the coupling to handle angular misalignment (up to 1°) and parallel misalignment (up to 0.4 mm).
Fail-Safe Mechanism: Because the metal jaws interlock, they act as a backup. If the spider disintegrates, the jaws will eventually make metal-on-metal contact to keep the load turning until the equipment can be shut down.
High Torque Capacity: Capable of handling up to 352.5 Nm of torque, making it suitable for large industrial motors.
Vibration Isolation: The thick elastomeric spider is excellent at dampening torsional vibrations, which protects gearboxes and bearings.
No Lubrication: Eliminates the mess and maintenance schedule associated with gear or chain couplings.
Economic Durability: Offers a long service life at a lower initial cost than many other flexible coupling types.
Easy Installation: Can be assembled and disassembled quickly without special tools or the need to move the connected machinery significantly.
The L 150 is a staple in heavy industrial environments:
Large Industrial Pumps: Used in wastewater treatment, chemical processing, and irrigation.
Conveyor Systems: Heavy-duty belt conveyors in mining and aggregate industries.
Gearboxes: Connecting large electric motors to industrial speed reducers.
Compressors: High-output reciprocating and rotary screw air compressors.
Crushers & Grinders: Used in processing plants where high shock loads are common.
The L 150 is the go-to "heavy lifter" for standard industrial applications requiring a bore size up to 48 mm. With a max torque of 352.5 Nm when using H-Trans inserts, it bridges the gap between general-purpose utility couplings and specialized high-torque drives. It remains one of the most cost-effective ways to protect large equipment from misalignment and shock.
