The L 110 Jaw Coupling (often designated as L110) is a versatile, torsionally flexible coupling designed for heavy-duty industrial applications. It is significantly larger than the L 100, offering nearly double the torque capacity. The L 110 is a "fail-safe" coupling, meaning it will continue to transmit power through its interlocking jaws even if the elastomeric spider fails, allowing for a controlled shutdown.
The L 110 performance is determined by the specific spider material used (Synthetic Rubber, Polyurethane, or H-Trans). Based on the technical data:
| Specification | Synthetic Rubber (NBR) | Polyurethane | H-Trans / Hytrel |
| Rated Torque (Nm) | 89.0 | 133.5 | 222.5 |
| Power @ 100 rpm (kW) | 0.93 | 1.4 | 2.3 |
| Power @ 1500 rpm (kW) | 13.95 | 21.0 | 34.5 |
Outside Diameter (ØA): 84 mm (approx. 3.31")
Max Bore (D): 42 mm (approx. 1.63")
Overall Length (TL1): 108 mm
Hub Diameter (ØB): 76 mm
Length thru' Bore (L1): 43 mm
Gap (G): 3 mm
Spider Diameter (ØE): 35 mm
The L 110 operates by transferring torque through the compression of an elastomeric spider.
Hub Connection: Two metal hubs (usually sintered iron or cast iron) are keyed and set-screwed to the drive and driven shafts.
Torque Path: Power flows from the drive hub, through the legs of the spider, and into the driven hub.
Damping: The spider absorbs shock loads and reduces torsional vibrations that could otherwise damage sensitive engine or motor components.
Compensation: The design allows the system to accommodate up to 1° of angular misalignment and roughly 0.4 mm of parallel misalignment.
High Torque-to-Size Ratio: Handles up to 222.5 Nm in a relatively compact 84 mm diameter frame.
Large Bore Capacity: With a 42 mm maximum bore, it accommodates larger motor shafts and heavy-duty industrial equipment.
Fail-Safe Reliability: The interlocking jaw design ensures power is not lost instantly if the spider reaches the end of its life.
Zero Maintenance: No lubrication is required, making it suitable for environments where grease or oil contamination must be avoided.
Chemical Resistance: Depending on the spider material, the coupling is resistant to oil, dirt, sand, and various industrial chemicals.
The L 110 is commonly used in high-demand industrial systems:
Heavy-Duty Pumps: Large centrifugal and slurry pumps.
Compressors: Industrial-grade reciprocating and screw compressors.
Material Handling: Large conveyor systems, crushers, and elevators.
Mining & Construction: Agitators, mixers, and heavy-duty fans.
Power Generation: Connecting diesel engines to generators.
The L 110 is a powerhouse of the L-Series, specifically designed for applications where torque requirements exceed 80 Nm or where shaft diameters reach 42 mm. It provides an excellent balance of high power transmission, vibration damping, and "fit-and-forget" reliability for the most demanding mechanical drives.
