The L 100 Jaw Coupling (often referred to as L100 or L-100) is a high-performance, flexible shaft coupling designed for medium to heavy-duty industrial applications. It belongs to the standard L-Series and features a fail-safe "jaw" design. While it is physically similar in diameter to the L 99, it is engineered with a longer hub length and a larger bore capacity, making it ideal for applications where shafts need deeper engagement or larger diameters.
The L 100 provides higher torque and power capacities compared to smaller models. Performance varies based on the spider material:
| Specification | Synthetic Rubber (NBR) | Polyurethane | H-Trans / Hytrel |
| Rated Torque (Nm) | 46.40 | 69.6 | 116 |
| Power @ 100 rpm (kW) | 0.49 | 0.73 | 1.2 |
Outside Diameter (ØA): 65 mm
Max Bore (D): 35 mm
Overall Length (TL1): 88 mm
Hub Diameter (ØB): 57 mm
Length thru' Bore (L1): 35 mm
Gap (G): 2 mm
Spider Diameter (ØE): 27 mm
The L 100 functions using a three-part assembly: two metal hubs and one elastomeric spider.
Torque Transfer: The motor turns the driving hub, which compresses the legs of the spider against the jaws of the driven hub.
Shock Management: The spider acts as a cushion, absorbing sudden mechanical shocks and reducing peak torque loads on the motor.
Misalignment Handling: The flexibility of the spider allows the coupling to operate even with small amounts of angular, parallel, or axial shaft misalignment.
Fail-Safe Operation: If the spider fails due to extreme wear, the metal jaws of the hubs will interlock to prevent a total loss of power transmission.
Larger Bore Capacity: Supports shafts up to 35 mm, offering more flexibility for various motor sizes.
Extended Hub Length: The 35 mm "Length thru' Bore" provides a more secure grip on the shaft compared to the shorter L 99.
Vibration Damping: Significantly reduces noise and mechanical vibration, extending the life of bearings and seals.
No Maintenance: Requires no lubrication or cooling, reducing operational costs.
Interchangeability: It is an industry-standard size, ensuring compatibility with spiders and hubs from major manufacturers.
Commonly used in demanding industrial environments:
Electric Motors: Connecting NEMA or IEC frame motors to driven equipment.
Large Pumps: Industrial water pumps and chemical processing units.
Blowers and Fans: High-capacity HVAC and exhaust systems.
Conveyor Drives: Heavy-duty material handling in mining and logistics.
Mixers and Agitators: Used in chemical, pharmaceutical, and food processing.
The L 100 is a versatile and robust coupling choice for applications requiring up to 116 Nm of torque (with H-Trans) and a 35 mm bore. It offers the same diameter as the L 99 but provides a longer footprint (88 mm overall length) for improved shaft stability and higher power ratings. It is a "set-and-forget" solution for protecting expensive machinery from wear and misalignment.
