Full Gear Coupling FGC 6
The Full Gear Coupling FGC 6 is a robust, high-torque gear shaft coupling designed for heavy-duty industrial power transmission. It connects two rotating shafts — a driving and a driven shaft — enabling efficient torque transfer while accommodating misalignment, shock, and vibration.
Key Specifications
- Maximum Torque Capacity: 21,960 Nm
- Maximum Speed: 3,500 RPM
- Bore Diameter Range: 50 mm – 125 mm
- Outer Diameter: 320 mm
- Weight (approx.): 86 kg
- Misalignment Compensation: Angular, Parallel, and Axial misalignment allowed.
How It Works
The coupling uses two hubs with crowned external gear-teeth mounted on the driving and driven shafts. These hubs mesh with two outer sleeves having internal gear-teeth. As the driving shaft rotates, torque is transmitted through the meshed teeth to the driven shaft, allowing for smooth power transmission even if the shafts are not perfectly aligned.
Benefits
- High torque and power capacity: Suitable for heavy-duty applications thanks to strong, hardened gear-teeth design.
- Misalignment tolerance: Accommodates angular, parallel and axial misalignments, reducing stress on shafts and bearings.
- Shock and vibration absorption: Gear coupling design helps damp shock loads and reduces vibration under heavy load.
- Durability and long service life: Carbon/forged-steel hubs and sleeves with hardened and machined teeth ensure long life even under demanding conditions.
- Compact and efficient: Offers high torque transmission in a relatively compact size, suitable where space is limited.
- Minimal maintenance (with proper lubrication): Requires periodic lubrication and inspection to maintain optimal performance and service life.
Typical Applications
- Rolling mills, steel plants, and other heavy-duty metal-industry drives
- Cement plants, crushers, conveyors, and material-handling equipment
- Pumps, compressors, blowers, fans, mixers in heavy industrial environments
- General heavy machinery requiring reliable power transmission under misalignment or varying loads
Selection & Installation Considerations
- Ensure driven machine’s power requirements and peak load match the coupling’s torque capacity.
- Check shaft bore diameters to ensure compatibility (within 50–125 mm for FGC 6).
- Confirm shaft speed does not exceed 3,500 RPM for safe operation.
- Allow space for coupling’s outer diameter and consider misalignment tolerance during installation.
- Ensure proper lubrication — periodic greasing or oiling as required, depending on duty and operating temperature.
- Consider operating conditions (load variation, shock, vibration) — coupling is suitable for heavy loads and flexible operation.
Summary
Full Gear Coupling FGC 6 offers a robust and efficient solution for heavy-duty industrial power transmission. With a high torque capacity of 21,960 Nm, speed tolerance up to 3,500 RPM, and misalignment accommodation, it suits demanding applications such as rolling mills, cement plants, conveyors, pumps, compressors, and other heavy machinery. Its rugged construction, compact design, and minimal maintenance requirements make it a reliable choice for long-term industrial use.
