The Full Gear Coupling FGC 18 is a heavy-duty, high-torque gear shaft coupling engineered for demanding industrial power transmission applications. It connects two rotating shafts — a driving and a driven shaft — enabling efficient torque transfer while accommodating shaft misalignment, shocks, and vibration.

Key Specifications

  • Nominal / Maximum Torque Capacity: 500 kN·m (≈ 500,000 Nm)
  • Maximum Speed: 1,050 RPM
  • Shaft Bore / Diameter Range (shaft bore on hubs): 280 mm – 400 mm (typical hub-bore range for FGC 18)
  • Approximate Outer Diameter: 1,100 mm
  • Approximate Weight (full-flex coupling): 2,278 kg

How It Works

The coupling consists of two hubs with external crowned gear-teeth mounted on the driving and driven shafts, and two outer sleeves with matching internal gear-teeth. As the driving shaft rotates, torque is transmitted through the meshed teeth via the sleeves to the driven shaft. The crowned-tooth profile and gear-sleeve design allow the coupling to tolerate angular, parallel, and axial misalignments — ensuring smooth power transmission even when shafts are not perfectly aligned. Proper lubrication (grease or oil depending on operating conditions) is required for long service life.

Benefits

  • Very high torque transmission: With 500,000 Nm capacity, FGC 18 is suitable for extremely heavy-duty industrial applications.
  • Misalignment compensation: Can accommodate angular, parallel, and axial misalignments — reducing stress on shafts, bearings, and connected machinery under load or thermal shifts.
  • Shock and vibration absorption: The gear-coupling design helps absorb shock loads and reduce vibration under heavy or varying loads.
  • Durability and long life: Made from robust forged/cast-steel hubs and sleeves with hardened, machined gear-teeth for reliable, long-term performance under harsh industrial conditions.
  • Compact for its capacity class: Despite its high torque rating and shaft-size compatibility, the coupling remains relatively compact compared to many alternative torque-transmission solutions for similar loads.
  • Maintenance-friendly (with proper lubrication): Requires periodic lubrication; with correct installation and maintenance the coupling offers stable, long-lasting service.

Typical Applications

  • Steel mills, rolling mills, and other heavy-duty metal-industry drives
  • Cement plants, crushers, bulk-material handling, heavy conveyors and industrial crushers
  • Pumps, compressors, blowers, large-scale fans, heavy mixers, and other large machinery under continuous or high-load operation
  • Mining equipment, aggregate-handling plants, dredgers, and other rugged industrial drives requiring high torque and potential shaft misalignment or shock loading
  • Any very heavy-load industrial machinery requiring reliable, flexible power transmission under harsh conditions

Selection & Installation Considerations

  • Ensure that the driven machine’s power requirement and peak load match the coupling’s torque capacity (~ 500,000 Nm for FGC 18).
  • Verify shaft / hub-bore diameters on both driving and driven shafts to be within 280–400 mm (or as per supplier-machined bore sleeves) for compatibility.
  • Confirm that shaft speed does not exceed 1,050 RPM for safe operation and longevity.
  • Allow adequate space for the coupling’s outer diameter (~ 1,100 mm) and ensure coupling fits within the mechanical layout and alignment envelope.
  • Plan for proper lubrication (grease or oil depending on operating temperature and load) and schedule regular maintenance to maximize service life and reliability.
  • Account for expected shaft misalignment (angular, parallel, axial) — allow sufficient clearance and tolerance in installation to prevent gear-tooth stress or wear.

Summary

Full Gear Coupling FGC 18 delivers a robust, heavy-duty coupling solution — capable of transmitting up to ~ 500,000 Nm torque at shafts with bore range around 280–400 mm and operating up to 1,050 RPM. Its flexible gear-sleeve design provides misalignment compensation, shock and vibration absorption, high torque density, and dependable durability — making it ideal for large industrial applications such as steel mills, cement plants, mining, heavy conveyors, crushers, pumps/compressors, and other heavy-load machinery. With correct installation, alignment, and regular lubrication & maintenance, FGC 18 ensures reliable, long-lasting power transmission under strenuous industrial conditions.
