How It Works
FGC 17A coupling consists of two hubs with crowned external gear-teeth mounted on driving and driven shafts, and two outer sleeves with matching internal gear-teeth. As the driving shaft rotates, torque is transmitted via the meshed teeth through the sleeves to the driven shaft. The crowned-tooth design allows the coupling to accommodate angular, parallel and axial misalignments — ensuring continuous, smooth torque transfer even if shafts are not exactly aligned. Lubrication (grease or oil) is necessary to ensure long-term smooth performance.
Benefits
- Very high torque capacity: Suitable for extremely heavy-duty industrial drives and large machinery.
- Misalignment tolerance: Accepts angular, parallel, and axial misalignments — reducing stresses on shafts and bearings under load or thermal shifts.
- Shock and vibration absorption: Gear-coupling design helps absorb shock loads and damp vibrations under heavy or variable loads.
- Durability and reliability: Robust construction (forged/heat-treated hubs and sleeves, hardened gear-teeth) ensures reliable service even under demanding conditions.
- Compact for its capacity class: Despite very high torque rating, coupling remains relatively compact compared to alternative coupling types for the same capacity class.
- Maintenance-friendly (with proper lubrication): Requires periodic lubrication to maintain optimal operation and extend service life.
Typical Applications
- Heavy-duty industrial drives — steel mills, metal-industry gear drives, large rolling mills
- Mining machinery, large crushers, bulk-material conveyors and handling equipment
- Large pumps, compressors, blowers, heavy-duty fans and mixers under high load or continuous operation
- Cement plants, aggregate-handling systems, dredgers, and other rugged industrial machinery
- Any application requiring extremely high torque transmission with allowance for shaft misalignment, shock, and vibration — where reliability over long operation periods is essential
Selection & Installation Considerations
- Ensure the driven machine’s torque and load demands align with coupling’s torque capacity (~1,025,000 Nm).
- Check shaft diameter / bore compatibility (up to ~ 540 mm) on both driving and driven shafts for proper fitment.
- Confirm shaft speed does not exceed the coupling’s recommended max (~ 950 RPM) for safe operation and longevity.
- Allow adequate space to accommodate coupling’s outer diameter (~ 1,100 mm) and provide clearance for installation, maintenance, and alignment checks.
- Plan for regular lubrication (grease or oil depending on operating temperature and load) to ensure long life and reliable performance.
- Design installation to allow for potential angular, parallel, and axial misalignments, and ensure alignment within coupling’s allowable limits — helps prevent premature wear and gear-tooth damage.
Summary
Full Gear Coupling FGC 17A offers a high-capacity, heavy-duty power-transmission solution — capable of delivering very large torque (~1,025,000 Nm), supporting large shafts (up to ~ 540 mm), and allowing for shaft misalignment and vibration absorption. Its robust gear-coupling design and flexibility make it ideal for large-scale industrial drives, mining, metal-industry equipment, bulk material handling, heavy pumps/compressors, crushers, conveyors, and other heavy-load machinery. With proper installation, alignment, and periodic lubrication, FGC 17A provides durable, reliable, long-term performance even under very demanding industrial conditions.
