How It Works
The coupling consists of two hubs with external crowned gear-teeth mounted on the driving and driven shafts, plus two outer sleeves with matching internal gear-teeth. As the driving shaft rotates, torque is transmitted through the meshed teeth via the sleeves to the driven shaft. The crowned-tooth profile and gear-sleeve design allow the coupling to compensate for angular, parallel, and axial misalignments — ensuring smooth power transmission even when shafts are not perfectly aligned. Proper lubrication (grease or oil, depending on operating conditions) is required for long service life.
Benefits
- High torque capacity: Suitable for heavy-duty industrial applications requiring large torque transmission.
- Misalignment tolerance: Accommodates angular, parallel and axial misalignments, reducing stress on shafts, bearings, and connected machinery.
- Shock and vibration absorption: The flexible gear-coupling design helps absorb shock loads and reduce vibration under heavy or fluctuating loads.
- Durability and long service life: Robust forged or cast-steel hubs and sleeves with hardened, precision-machined gear teeth ensure reliability even under demanding conditions.
- Compact design for its capacity class: Despite high torque rating, coupling remains reasonably compact compared to alternatives for similar torque class.
- Maintenance-friendly (with correct lubrication): Requires periodic lubrication; with proper maintenance, ensures long and stable service life.
Typical Applications
- Steel mills, rolling mills, and heavy-duty metal-industry drives
- Cement plants, large crushers, heavy conveyors and bulk material-handling systems
- Pumps, compressors, blowers, large-scale fans, mixers and other heavy-duty machinery under continuous or high-load service
- Mining equipment, aggregate-handling plants, and other rugged industrial drives demanding high torque and possible shaft misalignment or shock loads
- Any heavy-load industrial machinery requiring reliable, flexible power transmission under harsh conditions and variable loads
Selection & Installation Considerations
- Ensure driven machine’s power and peak load requirement match the coupling’s torque capacity (~ 355,000 Nm).
- Verify shaft bore diameters to be within 250–365 mm for compatibility with FGC 17.
- Confirm shaft speed (RPM) does not exceed 1,200 RPM for safe operation and longevity.
- Allow sufficient space for coupling’s outer diameter (~ 1,000 mm) and account for misalignment tolerances during installation.
- Use suitable lubricant (grease or oil per operating conditions) and schedule periodic maintenance to preserve performance and service life.
- Consider operating environment — heavy loads, shock, vibration, possibility of shaft misalignment — where robust coupling like FGC 17 offers reliable performance.
Summary
Full Gear Coupling FGC 17 provides a heavy-duty, high-torque coupling solution capable of transmitting ~ 355 kN·m torque at shaft bores between 250–365 mm and speeds up to 1,200 RPM. Its flexible gear-sleeve design allows angular, parallel, and axial misalignment compensation, along with shock and vibration absorption — making it ideal for large-scale industrial drives such as steel mills, cement plants, mining equipment, heavy conveyors, crushers, pumps/compressors, and other heavy-load machinery. With correct installation, alignment, and maintenance (especially lubrication), FGC 17 ensures reliable, long-lasting power transmission in demanding industrial conditions.
