How It Works
The coupling consists of two hubs with external crowned gear-teeth mounted on the driving and driven shafts, and two outer sleeves with internal gear-teeth. As the driving shaft rotates, torque is transmitted through the meshed teeth to the driven shaft. The crowned-tooth geometry and gear-sleeve design allow the coupling to tolerate angular, parallel, and axial misalignments — ensuring smooth power transmission even when shafts are not perfectly aligned. Proper lubrication (grease or oil as per operating conditions) is required for long service life.
Benefits
- High torque capacity: Suitable for heavy-duty industrial applications requiring large torque transmission.
- Misalignment tolerance: Accommodates angular, parallel, and axial misalignments — reducing stress on shafts, bearings, and connected machines.
- Shock and vibration absorption: Gear-coupling design helps absorb shock loads and damp vibrations under heavy or fluctuating loads.
- Durability and long service life: Robust forged or cast-steel hubs and sleeves with hardened, precision-machined gear-teeth ensure reliable performance under demanding conditions.
- Compact design for its capacity class: Despite its very high torque rating, coupling remains relatively compact compared to alternative solutions for similar torque class.
- Maintenance-friendly (with correct lubrication): Requires periodic lubrication; with proper maintenance, ensures long and stable service life.
Typical Applications
- Steel mills, rolling mills, heavy-duty metal-industry drives
- Cement plants, crushers, heavy conveyors and bulk material-handling systems
- Pumps, compressors, blowers, fans, heavy-duty mixers under continuous or high-load service
- Mining equipment, aggregate-handling plants, and other rugged industrial drives demanding high torque and possible shaft misalignment or shock loads
- Any heavy-load industrial machinery requiring reliable, flexible power transmission under harsh conditions and variable loads
Selection & Installation Considerations
- Ensure driven machine’s power requirement and peak load demand match coupling’s torque capacity (~ 250 kN·m for FGC 16).
- Confirm that shaft bore diameters on both shafts fall within 220–320 mm to ensure proper fit.
- Ensure shaft speed (RPM) does not exceed 1,300 RPM for safe operation and longevity.
- Allow adequate space for coupling’s outer diameter (~ 900 mm) and account for misalignment tolerance during installation.
- Adopt proper lubrication (grease or oil depending on operating conditions) and schedule regular maintenance to maximize service life.
- Consider operating environment: heavy loads, possible misalignment, shocks, vibration — coupling’s robust design and flexibility make it particularly suitable for such demanding industrial conditions.
Summary
Full Gear Coupling FGC 16 offers a heavy-duty coupling solution capable of transmitting high torque (~ 250 kN·m), supporting large shaft bores (220–320 mm), and operating up to 1,300 RPM. Its flexible gear-sleeve design provides misalignment compensation (angular, parallel, axial), shock and vibration absorption, and dependable durability under harsh industrial conditions. With proper installation, alignment, and maintenance (especially lubrication), FGC 16 ensures reliable, long-lasting performance — ideal for steel mills, cement plants, mining equipment, heavy conveyors, crushers, pumps/compressors, and other demanding heavy-load machinery.
